You don’t have much control on what they do and they don’t. If you are getting an offer that is too good to be true, most likely it is not true.

Vendors entice with a sample and unbelievably low prices to grab your attention. This is the hook.

Step Two – Initial Payment

You’re asked for a 50% advance due to the seemingly cheap deal. Instead of hesitating, you simply jump and grab the deal – because after all it is so good. Right?

Step Three – Falsified Proof

After claiming the goods are ready, vendors provide pictures, videos, or other proofs. Usually these proofs are made up, some sort of combination of Chatgpt + Photoshop / Canva and other tricks to make you believe the goods are ready.

Step Four – Disappearance Act

Once the balance is paid, the vendor disappears without fulfilling the order. This is part you will feel like a loser because by now – you have paid the balance amount and now you feel like shit. Don’t worry, you won’t be the first one and neither you are going to be the last one who falls for these scams.

Warning Signs

While we cannot create a complete guide on how to identify a real clothing supplier from scammers but we recommend that you speak to a dozen suppliers and have at least 5 to 10 finalised suppliers so that you can benchmark their inputs in terms of MOQs, Prices, timelines. Try and understand why a supplier X is able to do something for such a low cost compared to supplier Y who is giving you are higher price. By getting a sense of unrealistic low prices combined with lack of transparency will eventually lead to you getting scammed when your clothing supplier will suddenly disappear after payments.

To be honest, there is no checklist here. You have to be streetsmart and you got to do your homework because after all it is your money at stake. We recommend that you work with reputable vendors with a proven track record. If you work with vendors who have built their reputation over years, they won’t through their reputation down the drain for quick money.

Always verify identities and prioritise reviews. Try to get on a video call and get comfortable with your potential supplier before making any sort of payment – even if its $50.
